Top 5 Non-Negotiables in our travel backpacks
Whether we are embarking on a remote Indonesian surfing adventure or setting off to meander our way around the streets of Europe, these are the top 5 things that are making it into our Kathmandu backpacks!
MOLESKINE JOURNALS
Starting strong with our Moleskine journals. These are full of random to-do lists, daily recaps, and pieces of ‘treasure’ we find along the way. One of our favourite things to do is take a photo of ourselves at the start of each month to document the moment as the year passes by. I started this journal on the 1st of January, and by my calculations, it will last until the start of July, but luckily, I have my next one ready to go!
Fujifilm X100VI
Next, we have our sacred Fujifilm X100VI, recommended to us by our wedding photographer besties. This camera has been a game-changer for us! We’ve always enjoyed taking photos over the summer, and, being Gen X, it’s become part of our lives, but having this camera has taken it to the next level. We now don’t leave the house without it!
Best camera ever
Sony HDR-CX405
Carrying on with the camera gear, our Dad cam, the Sony HDR-CX405, is strapped to Toby at all times. This footage might never see the light of day, but it is one of the best things we’ve ever bought. Initially, it was to capture a Europe trip a few years ago, but it’s now been to Indonesia, captured our summer adventures…and it was meant to be used on our wedding day; however, we got too caught up in the moment, and it was left in the car. Since then, it’s had some upgrades in the form of Toby being left alone with a label maker…

Apple USB-C to SD Card Reader
Another key piece of gear that we carry is the Apple USB-C to SD Card Reader. What used to be a draining process of having to transfer photos from our camera to our laptop has now transformed into the easiest process of popping the SD card straight into our phones. Making it the best piece of kit for day trips or strike missions with limited baggage.
Lifesaver
Monopoly Deal
Finishing off with a banger, we have Monopoly Deal, quite possibly the best card game ever invented. Whether we are in a restaurant, on the beach, or flying in a plane, this card game is with us. We’ve been through 5+ sets in the last few years thanks to wear and tear, but every replacement is worth it. The best thing is, I have a win ratio of 5:1 playing with Toby. It’s probably the only game I ever stand a chance at winning. If they tell you it’s not a strategic game, they are lying to you!
Best game in the world!
